    Condolences

    Condolence From: Jim Steward
Condolence: Jim Rainey was probably the hardest working man I ever met. And while I may get these pieces of history in the wrong order my intent is to illustrate that his dedication to doing what was necessary to support his family was so very admirable. At one point he was a butcher, a barber, a newspaper deliveryman (many, many years working all night long plus weekends), an apartment manager/owner and finally a barber for 20+ years). As a Beaumont high school football player he once tackled Mike Shannon (when Mike was a QB) and the hit was hard enough that Mike congratulated him. One of my favorite pics was him as young barber in a picture with Danny Thomas. He was known as THE one to go to if you wanted a great flat-top (a hair-cut I fell in love with) and will greatly miss his amazing attention to detail (and free haircuts). I loved watching my son pay Bunka for a haircut with a hug - for over 20 years. Incidentally, the name Bunka came from my daughter trying to say "Gumpa"for the first time (which is embarrassing because she was 17 years old at the time). And I loved his sense-of-humor during the really tough times like when my youngest took him to get ice cream and he joked about her needing to stand in the "right" spot in order to catch him because he was always falling down. Too many folks in this world measure success by income and titles - don't get me wrong, I greatly admire both - but I much prefer to measure the true definition of success by hard work...any kind of work and dedication to your family. He never really spoke about God but I witnessed his faith every Thanksgiving when he said the blessing, it was so sincere - something I will miss most. And, finally, a person does not need to be outspoken to leave their mark in this world. Thanks for everything Jim Rainey, Rest-in-peace.
